How to set a wallpaper
Every wallpaper on Screenpaper has two download buttons: a phone size and a desktop size. Pick the one for the screen you are setting it on, then follow the steps for your device.
Which size do I need?
Phone (1440 × 3120). A tall 19.5:9 image that fills current iPhones and most Android phones edge to edge. Your phone scales it down slightly and trims a few pixels from the sides if its screen is a little narrower; nothing is stretched.
Desktop (3840 × 2160). A 16:9 image at 4K. It fits 4K monitors exactly and scales down with no loss to 2560 × 1440 and 1920 × 1080, which have the same shape. On 16:10 laptops such as MacBooks, choose “Fill Screen” and the system trims a thin strip from the left and right.
Steps by device
- iPhone
- Tap Download for the phone size, then open the image in Photos, tap the share button and choose "Use as Wallpaper". Pinch to adjust, then set it for the Lock Screen, Home Screen or both.
- Android
- Download the phone size, then press and hold an empty area of your home screen, choose "Wallpaper & style", pick the image from your downloads and apply it to the home screen, lock screen or both.
- Mac
- Download the 4K desktop size, then right-click the file in Finder and choose "Set Desktop Picture", or open System Settings › Wallpaper and add the file.
- Windows
- Download the 4K desktop size, then right-click the file and choose "Set as desktop background". The 4K file scales cleanly to 1440p and 1080p monitors.
Lock screen or home screen?
For a lock screen, choose a design that is calm in the upper third, where the clock sits. For a home screen behind a full grid of apps, soft gradients, solid colors and patterns with small, even detail keep icon labels readable.
With two monitors, set the same wallpaper on each rather than stretching one image across both, so the pattern lines up on each screen. Ultrawide monitors crop the top and bottom of a 16:9 image; gradients and textures, which have no single focal point, are the safest choice there.
